Canadian Tire relied on a 3rd party Learning Management System (LMS) for store training. As the LMS evolved to focus more on the UX, we realized we needed to build an LMS to completely suit our business needs, drive efficiencies and save the company money.

The goal: improve user experience, drive efficiencies, and reduce costs.

Role: UI/UX Researcher, UI/UX Designer, Front-End Developer

I was deeply involved in every stage of the project—from research and planning to design, development, and deployment resulting in measurable and successful business outcomes.

Research & Analysis:

A thorough analysis of other 3rd party vendor products was conducted – comparing their offerings, analyzing their features, and identifying gaps. Based on cost, licensing fees, implementation estimates, and a lack of customizability we built a business case that the best solution was to create and develop our own improved in-house LMS solution.

Features Roadmap:

As this was going to be a big build, we collaborated with stakeholders to define core features and break them down into manageable function.

User /Task Flows:

I identified three user flows: LMS administrators, Store Administrators, Learners. Given that Learners would be the bulk of the users I knew we had to get that right. The site flow was crucial in making sure the user flow worked.

Wireframes & Mockups:

Once the flow was identified, I developed wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes for the site based on the task flows. Incorporating what worked from the previous LMS so that users would have some familiarity, I expanded the interactivity and dynamic elements so that it would feel like a truly custom experience for each learner.

Front-End Development:

Once mockups were tested and approved, I implemented responsive UI components to align with accessibility and usability best practices.

Business Impact:

  • 30% decrease in user tickets
  • 60% increase in efficiency of task completions
  • 5-10 fewer clicks per page for LMS administrators
  • Over $400K annual savings in licensing fees

This project showcased my ability to combine research, design thinking, and development skills to deliver a solution that improved user experience and delivered measurable business results.
